A Practice Report On The Application Of Adaptation Strategies In Chinese Translation Of Electric Adn Hybrid Vehicles From The Prospective Of Skopos Theory

This report selects a segment of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles as practice material and analyses the application of adaptation strategies from the prospective of Skopos Theory in this text.The selected material has the basic features of scientific text:full of passive voice;long and complex sentences,and is objective;accurate and standard.This Chinese translation practice report focuses on:the difference between implication and explicitation of passive voice structure;syntactic structure inconsistency and distorted textual logic between source language and target language.From the perspective of Skopos Theory,this report adopts adaptation as a strategy to solve the problems encountered in the process of translation:using absolute implication,explicitation of passive voice,and half-implication to solve problems due to the difference between implication and explicitation of passive voice structure;applying sequential translation of long sentences,reverse translation of subordinate clause,and the variable order to solve the problem of syntactic structure inconsistencies;choosing reducing useless information,amplification of correlation logic,and narration of complex content to solve problems of textual logic blurred between source language and target language.These modifications will assist in adaptation and improving the quality of translation.Case studies and translating practices show that adaptation strategy in the view of the Skopos Theory offers a credible guideline to Chinese translation in this kind of text and improves accuracy and quality of translating.
