Under the background of globalization, there are many diplomatic speeches given by Chinese leaders to the world. As a communication medium, interpreting plays an important role in international communication.Due to its unique political background, diplomatic purpose and special contents, the requirement to interpreters is much higher. On the basis of improving interpreting capacities, how interpreters distribute effort rationally and adopt interpreting strategies skillfully is worth researching. The thesis has conducted a study of Gile's Effort Model, employing case study as feasible method, taking the interpretation of Xi Jinping's speech at the B20 Summit as the resource. The thesis has reviewed the literatures about studies of Gile's Effort Model at home and abroad, the development of diplomatic speech in China and studies of simultaneous interpreting strategies in diplomatic speech from the perspective of Gile's Effort Model. On this basis, the thesis has conducted an analysis on the adoption of anticipation strategy, omission strategy and paraphrasing strategy in the interpretation of Xi Jinping's speech at the B20 Summit. It is suggested that Gile's Effort Model is of great significance to interpreting practice. In simultaneous interpreting of diplomatic speech, interpreters can adopt relevant interpreting strategies accordingly, such as anticipation, omission and paraphrasing.Meanwhile, interpreters should distribute effort rationally so as to obtain the most desirable effect.
