This study intent to explore the relationship between mental illness stigma and self-presentation in social network sites,the mediating role of self-esteem of college students by the method of questionnaire survey using Self-Stigma of Seeking Help Scale,Perceived Devaluation-discrimination Scale,Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale,Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale,and Self-presentation Strategies Scale.Finally 940 valid questionnaires were recycled.The data were analyzed by the program of spss18.0,and the conclusions are as bellow:(1)The college students' overall level of self – stigma of mental illness is slightly lower;the general level of public stigma of mental illness is in the middle;In social networking sites,the honest self presentation is slightly higher than positive selfpresentation;The overall level of self-esteem is higher.(2)College students' public stigma of mental illness has significant difference in gender and grade;self-esteem has significant difference in the grade,the positive self-presentation has significant difference in family sources,and the honest self-presentation has significant difference in the family source and grade.(3)The self stigma of mental illness,self-esteem and self-presentation in social networking sites are correlated with each other significantly.Self-stigma significantly predicts the honest self-presentation and self-esteem.Self-esteem significantly predicts self-presentation.Public stigma of mental illness,self-esteem and self-presentation(positive self-presentation and honest self presentation)significantly correlated,public stigma significantly predicted self-esteem,self-esteem and public stigma significantly predict positive self-presentation and honest self-presentation.(4)Self-esteem plays a partial intermediary role between mental illness stigma and self-presentation in social network sites.Self-esteem plays a partial intermediary role between self-stigma of mental illness and honest self-presentation in social networking sites.Self-esteem plays a partial intermediary role between public stigma and honest self-presentation;Self-esteem plays a partial intermediary role between public stigma and positive self-presentation.(5)When stigma of mental illness predicts self-presentation in social networking sites,it exits difference between group with different self-esteem and group of global self-esteem.College students with low self-esteem,their self-stigma of mental illness significantly predicts positive self-presentation in social networking sites;public stigma and self stigma of mental illness significantly predicate honest self-presentation.In defensive high self-esteem group,public stigma and self-stigma significantly predict honest self-presentation.In genuine high self-esteem group,self-stigma significantly predicates positive self-presentation.
