A Report On The C-E Translation Of Marxism And Socialism With Chinese Characteristics

The report is based on the author's experience of translating the book Marxism and Socialism with Chinese Characteristics,which is a kind of external publicity materials.Invited by Professor Chen,the initiator of the translation project,the author undertook part of the book and transferred it from Chinese to English.In the report,the author firstly gives a brief introduction to its structure and also the translation project.Then,the whole process of translating is analyzed scientifically and closely,including work done before translating,during translating and after translating.To be specific,the source text is analyzed by adopting Nord's text analysis mode before translating,and then it is transferred into English under the guidance of the translation principle of Nord's “functionality plus loyalty”,and finally the quality of the translation is tested by referring to the principle and the feedback of the initiator as well.More importantly,some difficulties and problems,both on a macro level and on a micro level,came across by the author during translating are listed in the report,and some typical ones among them are deeply analyzed together with their corresponding solutions.In the end,reflections on the translation are made and also some useful suggestions are given by the author.Through the translation project,the author's translation ability is improved and some experience in translating the external publicity materials especially political texts is gained.In the report,some typical features of the political texts and also some translation strategies are discussed.The author hopes that they will do some help for MTI students and other researchers when dealing with similar texts,so as to further better spread China's political ideas as well as its political culture.
