Travelling abroad to pursue the higher level of spirit enjoyment among Chinese tourists has become a fashion in modern life.This translation report is based on the paper translation of 2015 Chicago Tourism Products Promotion(Chengdu).It is about the introduction,analysis and summary of the process and achievements of the translation task.This promotion was organized by Chicago Tourism Administration in Chengdu Office.In order to provide the latest travel information and tourism products of Chicago for Chengdu citizens,all the materials that the promotion needed should be translated from English to Chinese.The author acted as the translator during the promotion and was responsible for the English-Chinese translation which mainly included the introductions of Chicago,attractions and tourism products.With the help of vivid and accurate translation,many Chinese tourists of different ages could know and accept western culture so as to achieve the positive effect on commercial propaganda.In the process of translation,the author faced some difficulties,for example,how to use native Chinese to introduce the Chicago's unique culture to meet Chinese tourists' needs? How to minimize cultural difference between cultures to achieve the positive effect on commercial propaganda? All above is a great challenge for a fresh translator.In this report,under the guidance of The Skopos Theory and the cross-cultural communication theory,the author has read many parallel texts and makes good use of different translation strategies and techniques,such as literal translation,free translation,amplification,omission,sentence reconstruction and so on.In addition,the author has paid more attention to the choice of vocabulary,sentence pattern and the features of paragraph with practical cases.And the author of this thesis attempts to discuss the translation strategies and techniques of tourism publicity materials.All the efforts aim at ensuring the quality of translation and attracting more tourists to travel to Chicago.At the same time,the author also makes a summary and has reflection on the success and failure in translation and hopes that this thesis may be of some use to promote the translation quality of tourism materials.As the report reveals,a translator should focus on not only the cultivation of linguistic competence and the cultural understanding,but also the combination of theory and practice.Meanwhile,the adoption of rich Internet resources and advanced CAT tools can raise working efficiency and economize human resources greatly.An excellent communicator between different cultures should build a broad bridge of friendship through translation.
