Set in the context of the Covid-19 crisis,people have become more aware that vaccines have great significance to the development of our society.As one of the most outstanding achievements in the history of medicine,vaccines save billions of lives and provide new ideas for medical workers to prevent contagious diseases.BBC documentary Extra Life: A Short History of Living Longer discovers the significant progress of medical health and the effectiveness of vaccines for improving people’s life expectancy.The interpreter selects the documentary as the source speech of the simulated English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting,aiming to analyze the difficulties caused by TV simultaneous interpreting and to propose specific interpreting strategies to tackle challenges brought by TV simultaneous interpreting.This report is divided into five parts.The first part includes the background and the significance and purpose of the report.The second part is task description,including source text description,characteristics of simultaneous interpreting in TV programs,task requirements and target audience.The third part is process description,including pre-interpreting preparations,the process of interpreting and the feedback of audience.The fourth part is the key of this report,and the interpreter analyzes the interpreting output from the perspectives of simultaneity,unidirectivity and unpredictability.Specific interpreting strategies are proposed to respond to these challenges so as to improve the capability of the interpreter.The fifth part is the conclusion,including major findings,limitations and self-reflections.From this report,the interpreter deepens the understanding of the features of TV simultaneous interpreting and realizes the importance of the pre-interpreting preparation.Good preparation could effectively save the interpreter’s energy and reduce memory load.In response to the difficulties caused by the specialty of TV interpreting,the interpreter proposes several interpreting strategies,such as syntactic linearity,simplification,anticipation and conversion.Through this practice,the interpreter improves her interpreting ability,and proposes specific interpreting strategies to deal with difficulties of TV simultaneous interpreting.It is hoped that this report could provide references to future interpreting practices.
