With the development of China's economy and the improvement of China's international status,more and more foreigners start to learn Chinese.The author finds that the modal verbs can help students express themselves accurately in daily communication in the process of teaching Chinese as foreign language.The modal verb Hui belongs to the first class vocabulary in Graded Words and Characters for Chinese Proficiency.It is used frequently and is one of the teaching difficult and important points.By analyzing the omission error of modal verb Hui in HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus,it can be seen that there are three kinds of errors,including Omission,Blends,and Addition among which the Omission error accounts for the largest proportion,but previous studies paid much attention to the Addition error,little studies of the Omission error can be found.Therefore,this thesis focuses on the Omission error of modal verb Hui.It firstly classifies and analyzes the Omission error of modal verb Hui and then its causes are explored.Finally corresponding suggestions are put forward according to the teaching experience.The text is composed of three parts except Introduction and Conclusion.Firstly,this text introduces the current situation of studies on modal verb Hui in Chinese language.In order to summarize the use of Hui as comprehensive as possible,it is analyzed from the separation of meanings,syntactic structure and pragmatic functions,which will lay a solid foundation for the error analysis of model verb Hui.Secendly,we are analy and classify the error.By analyzing the HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus,the questionnaire and students' errors in daily exercises,it can be concluded that the Omission error can divided into three categories from the semantics: semantic barrier,semantic difference and semantic similarity.Among them,the third one takes up the largest proportion.There are no obvious semantic differences of Hui in this kind of error.It should be analyzed according to the context.This is the difficult and important points in students' learning.Thirdly,we are analy the causes of errors.The author analyzes the causes from the following aspects: the complexity of modal verb Hui;the negative transfer of native language;cognitive bias;students' self-learning methods;teachers' teaching and the compiling of teaching materials.Then,we take some teaching suggestions on modal verb Hui in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.On the basis of the analysis and summary of the above chapters,some teaching suggestions areput forward from the aspects of language knowledge,teaching skills,the compiling of teaching materials and the arrangements of exercises.
