Enterprise website is of great importance to more information about enterprise for customers, investors and employees in the Internet era.And corporate profile is a detailed introduction about company introduction, products and services, hardware facilities, governance, team and position, and development target, which means that its C-E translation belongs to international publicity translation. The English translation of corporate profile aims to international publicity, introducing products and services, the information about corporate culture and corporate strength as well as good image, attracting overseas customers and investors. As Chinese and English belong to different language families and share little similarity in its historic and cultural background, there are many differences in wording and phrasing about corporate profile between two countries.Considering these differences, the English translation of corporate profile is prone to be confined to the Chinese text, textual and thinking patterns with Chinese characteristics, which would possibly bring about quite a few issues about understanding and reading. This thesis tries to make a comparison and analysis about corporate profiles of ten banking enterprises between China and America with the method of content analysis and literature research. On the basis of Jef Verschueren's linguistic adaptation theory, this thesis focuses on current English translation about Chinese banking enterprises' corporate profiles from the perspective of contextual correlates and structural objects.Firstly,it affirms existing adaptation in contextual correlates and structural objects, admitting the necessity of adaptation for corporate profiles English translation. The translators, within intercultural text transformation, require taking contextual correlates into consideration and analyzing the differences and similarities in structural objects on the premise of effective delivery for the original information. And then,it discusses linguistic adaptation in contextual correlates and structural objects about corporate profiles with examples. With inspiration of linguistic adaptation, translators could use the following methods in translation, such as discourse reconstruction, omission, deletion of complicated information without meaning or supplement certain cultural information from original culture,so that the English translation could deliver effective information for target language readers for better international communication. This thesis consists of six chapters. The first chapter is a brief introduction to research background, significance, methods and thesis structure. The second chapter is literature review with detailed introduction and researches about adaptation theory and the English translation of corporate profile in Chinese banking website. The third chapter is the theoretical framework of this thesis,an introduction about Verschueren's linguistic adaptation theory. The fourth chapter is the current situation about corporate profile in Chinese banking website and the comparison and analysis about corporate profiles between Chinese-US banking enterprises in terms of contextual correlates and structural objects. The fifth chapter is the main part for this thesis, discussing the necessity of adaptation from current English translation in contextual correlates and structural objects respectively. And the translators should adopt certain methods, taking the priority of faithfulness with guidance of linguistic adaptation strategy,in different context for fluent and smooth expression. The last part is the conclusion for this thesis, including the main research resultsand limitations about this research.
