The author of this thesis is assigned to translate the third, fourth and fifth chapter of Methodology of Western Translation Studies: since the 1970 s,an academic book on methodologies of translation studies. The pragmatic Adaptation Theory by famous Belgium linguist Verschueren presents a brand new perspective of translation studies and establishes a unified and coherent model for translation strategies. Therefore, based on the Adaptation Theory, the thesis explores the guidance of the Adaptation Theory to the academic context from the adaptation to the structural objects and contextual correlates. This thesis discusses the proper translation strategies in doing the E-C translation.Conversion of the parts of speech, selection in word meaning and transliteration are used for nouns, and divisions and change of voice for complex sentences, and interpretation for cultural differences between Chinese and English. The translation should be adaptable to the reading habits of target readers when the meaning of the original text is conveyed, thus retaining the readability of the translated text and bringing to world the academic concepts.
