This translation report aims at exploring proper translation strategies of Kedao(excerpt)which is a work about Kedao culture of Miao nationality.With unique style and feature,Kedao culture is priceless treasure created by Miao people in the long-term history.As the important record of Miao marriage,Kedao plays an important role in Miao society and possesses extremely important study value.However,the text Kedao contains a large number of culture-specific items which are difficult to understand.What?s more,the narration of the text is too cumbersome in the course of information transfer.The same information often appears repeatedly in the text.It?s a great difficulty to cancel and integrate the repeated information properly in the process of translation.So this translation is a great challenge for the translator.The book is written in Chinese.The excerpt is the first chapter of the book.It is an introduction which covers five sections.There are about 10,000 words in total.It mainly introduces Kedao systematically.Verschueren?s Adaptation Theory is adopted to guide this translation.Verschueren thinks,actually the process of using language is a process in which language users make various choices of language.In this process,translators should take a full consideration of effects produced by contextual correlates and structural objects,and use proper translation strategies flexibly.On the basis of analyzing the original text and translation difficulties,the report mainly discusses adaptability in the process of translation from two aspects including contextual correlates of adaptability and structural objects of adaptability,combining specific illustration of examples.Under the guidance of Adaptation Theory,the exploration of translation strategies of Kedao aims to ensure the accuracy of the translation,as well as to promote transmission and communication of Miao culture.This report mainly contains four parts.The first part is an introduction to the translation including background,content,aim and significance of the translation.The second part is a description of translation process,which introduces preparation work,the real translation process and matters needing attention after translation.The third part analyzes the application of Adaptation Theory in the translation,combining specific illustration of examples.The last part summarizes the translation experience and lessons,and puts forward problems that have to be solved completely.
