According to the clue model,individuals tend to rely on some clues to make predictions,such as word of relevance,learning time,font format,etc.But some clues don't affect the real memory,such as font size,font is clear and fuzzy.Individual will produce meta-memory illusion when they rely on these clues.meta-cognitive illusion will be harmful to study.how to determine its generation mechanism has always been a research hotspot.This study mainly aims at and discuss the problem.The effect of font size on JOLs could potentially be mediated by two factors,processing fluency or belief about memory.Processing fluency hypothesis focuses on individual perception experience when learning materials,If the processing fluency is high,project would give high JOL,on the contrary,if disfluency,JOL will be low.But the belief hypothesis doesn't support processing fluency,and consider memory experience as important factor.If the individual feels large font is easy to remember,they will give JOLs to large font.This research mainly from two aspects to discuss the font size effect.In this study,subjects are college students and three experiments are included.The experiment 1 took the form of two-factors mixed design by a 2(font size:large or smaller)x 2(study time:limited study time or self-paced)mixed factorial design,and we measure study time to further evaluate the processing fluency and the font-size effect.In experiment 2,we used prestudy JOLs to investigate belief and the font-size effectt.A 2(font size:large or smaller)×2(judgment group:immediate or prestudy JOL)mixed factorial design was used.On the basis of experiment 2,experiment 3 explore fluency,beliefand the font-size effect by adding the correlation between pairs,namely,A 2(font size:large or smaller)×2(pair type:related or unrelated)× 2(judgment group immediate or prestudy JOL)mixed factorial design was used.Three experimental conclusion is as follows:(1)Fluency is not the only factor affecting font size effects,main effect of font size and for study time were not significant,suggesting no difference in processing fluency for large and smaller font-size words.(2)Beliefs affect font size effects.Individual believe that large font is easier to remember than smaller font before learning it(3)the relatedness of word pair affects font size effects.the belief still plays an important role when individual is not sure of a correlation clue.But when individual senses the correlation,the fluency of perception is regulated by the word correlation.
