A Translation Report On Participation Contract Under The Guidance Of Skopos Theory

With the development of economic globalization,countries have increasingly closed economic ties and enhanced business cooperation and the commercial contracts play an important role.Participation contract is an important branch of it.Commercial contracts generally contain information about the two parties to the contract,relevant rules,terms and methods of dispute settlement.In the translation of business contracts,translators should accurately convey the information in the contract,so that the readers could understand the rights and obligations of both parties.Translators should attach importance to every detail to avert bad effect and unnecessary economic losses caused by wrong translation and missing translation.The original text of this report is a participation contract signed by and between Henan York Animation and REED MIDEM.This contract is mostly about the participation of MIPCOM organized by REED.On the basis of this project and,the three principles of the Skopos theory,this translation report aims to study the field of the English translation of business contracts and puts forward some applicable translation strategies.This translation report is divided into four parts.In the first part,the author makes a brief introduction of the research background,significance and the outline of the report.In the second part,the author introduces the theoretical basis of this report-the Skopos theory and its application in business contract translation.The emergence of the Skopos theory sets free the translation work from original text and lets translators pay more attention to the recipient's expectation,need,knowledge and cultural environment.In the third part,the most important segment of this report,the author analyzes some cases based on the three principles of the Skopos theory: fidelity rule,coherence principle and skopos principle.In the lexical level,the author focuses on the analysis of archaic words,technical words,fuzzy words,synonyms,abbreviations and loanwords based on the fidelity rule.In the syntactical level,the author lays a lot of emphasis on the analysis of the long and complicated sentences,passive sentences,conditional sentences and adverbial clauses based on the coherence rule.In the textual level,the author highlights the features of the target language of this report based on the skopos rule.In the fourth part,the author summarized the lessons and limitations of this report.The author sincerely hopes this report could make a little contribution to the future study of business contract translation.
