A Project Report On The E-C Translation Of TWE Import Contract

As a significant import and export country,China's demand for translation of international trade documents is increasing sharply in recent years.A high-quality contract translation can not only ensure the success of trading negotiations but also avoid potential differences and prevent contract risks.This translation project report is based on the translation of the TWE Import Contract.The source text includes the application document for a commercial credit account,conditions of sales,as well as the formal contract between the parties and the schedules.Under the framework the skopos rule,the coherence rule and the fidelity rule of functionalist skopos theory,the report selects typical cases from the lexical,syntactic and textual level to analyze the translation methods and strategies of legal terms and concepts,high-frequency legal words and phrases,long sentences,passive voice and parallel structure in the English contracts.At the lexical level,it emphasizes the translation of legal terms and legal concepts must consider their specific connotation and legal background.At the syntactic level,it is proposed that the conversion of long sentences must distinguish the structures and logical relationships of the sentences,consider the linguistic differences between Chinese and English contracts,and employ the strategies of insertion,cutting,reversion,recasting and so on.At the textual level,taking the parallel structure as an example,this report puts forward the importance of understanding the logic of contract sentences.
