As the center of the huge circular area,the South China Sea is the cradle of human survival and development,as well as one of the most significant areas with huge potential in economic and cultural development.With a long history,a vast territory,a dense population,and rich resources,this area nurtures colorful folk culture,making itself really a treasure in Chinese culture.In recent years,it has attracted worldwide attention with the South China Sea issue because of its strategic importance in global situation.And China's present stratagem to strengthen the nation's sea power has also upgraded the historical and realistic meaning to spread and promote the South China Sea culture.Therefore,it seems significant that the research and translation of the South China Sea folk culture will not only publicize the culture of this area,but also help to enhance the influence of the culture in the world.This report is mainly composed of four parts.The first part gives a brief introduction to the background,objectives and significance of the translation task,and to the selected text.The second part introduces the whole translation process,including the pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.Case analysis is the core part of this report.Taking the three principles of the Skopos Theory as its theoretical basis,this part gives a study on the three difficulties of the translation practice,and put forward specific translation methods and strategies.The first is culture-loaded words,which have unique images and rich connotations.According to the report,it,based on context,can be translated by the means of transliteration,transliteration with annotation,and literal translation with annotation.Through supplement of implicit and background information,readers are ensured with a more comprehensive understanding.The second is Chinese four-character expressions,which usually have symmetrical structure,rich implication,intonation and harmony.According to the report,techniques like literal translation,interpretation,conversion,omission should be adopted in the translation process,so that the readers can have a better understanding of the original,and that the purposes of conveying information and disseminating of culture can be achieved.The third is Chinese complex sentence.According to the report,the relationship between clauses should beanalyzed firstly,and then by using the methods of division and combination and adjusting the language structure,the translation can be faithful to the original and be consistent with the expressing habits of the target language.In the last part,the whole translation task is reflected and summarized.The report,to a certain extent,introduces the Chinese culture in the South China Sea to the foreigners,and promotes the cultural exchanges between China and the west,at the same time,provides some references for similar translation practice.
