Recent years have witnessed the striking progress China has yielded in its legal construction, and the legal translation is playing an even more important role in shaping Chinese national image and facilitating its foreign interactions. As an essential part of the socialist system of laws with Chinese characteristics, the translation of local rules and regulations deserves close scrutiny.Against this backdrop, this report, unfolded on the C-E translation of Regulations of Jiangsu Province on Meteorological Disaster Prevention, centers on six major issues and difficulties in its translation process and their solutions, which is hoped to provide enlightenment for other legal translators when dealing with similar problems.Under the guidance of principles of accuracy and equivalency of legislative texts, the approaches to the difficulties are proposed as follows:expressions with Chinese characteristics can be addressed by referring to official translations;technical terms on meteorological disaster prevention can be solved by resorting to terminology bases;literal translation and addition can be adopted to the translation of fuzzy expressions;the sentences without subjects can be tackled by transforming into passive voice;to deal with the sentences with the“de(?)”structure, three ways including converting into attributive clauses, adding subjects and converting into adverbial clauses of condition could be employed flexibly based on different situations;the methods like rearrangement and integrating, and amplification could be applied to the translation of long and complicated sentence.
