A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Regulations Of Jiangsu Province On Population And Family Planning

This translation project report is unfolded on the basis of the C-E translation of Regulations of Jiangsu Province on Population and Family Planning(hereinafter referred to as Regulations),and Law of the People 's Republic of China on Population and Family Planning.By analyzing the major issues and difficulties encountered during the translation process,this project report aims to summarize the main features of legislative texts and present corresponding solutions.Legislative texts feature professionalism and inclusiveness in lexicon,lengthy structure and objectivity on syntax and preciseness,formality and solemnity in the whole text.In this report,six major issues and difficulties and cause analysis are discussed including terminology,fuzzy expressions,expressions with Chinese characteristics,non-subject sentences,"de(?)"-structured sentences and long and complicated sentences.Under the guidance of "translation principles for legislative texts",the following solutions are put forward:parallel corpus at home and abroad can be referred to for terminology on the basis of the principle of consistency and identity;amplification and equivalent techniques can be adopted for fuzzy expressions on the basis of the principle of preciseness and equivalence;official expressions can be referred to and free translation can be adopted for expressions with Chinese characteristics on the basis of the principle of conforming to the convention;strategies of converting to passive sentences and flexible rearrangement can be applied to the translation of non-subject sentences;"de"-structured sentences can be translated by converting to conditional adverbial clauses and attributive clauses,adding a logic subject and using the structure of non-finite clauses according to specific situations;and three steps of logic sentence constitutes analysis,splitting and restructuring can be adopted for translation of long and complicated sentences.Based on her personal translation experience,the author aims to promote the study of C-E translation of local regulations.
