| The source text is taken from a popular scientific book,Fallacies—The Art of Mental Trickery and Manipulation,one of the series books—Thinker’s Guide by Dr.Richard Paul and Dr.Linda Elder,the masters of critical thinking.Chapter One to Chapter Thirteen of the book is taken as the source text of this translating project.It belongs to public scientific book of philosophy,which mainly introduces the common natures of human thinking,the classification of fallacies and how to recognize fallacies.Since its publication,the book has been highly acclaimed and was even chosen as the textbook of American colleges and universities.The report falls into four parts.The first part is introduction,including the source of the project,the requirement of the project and the general introduction of the source text and the authors.The second part is the process of translation,including preparation,the key and difficult points of translation and the proofreading.And the preparation mainly introduces the steps of collecting material and the type of the source text.And the key and difficult points of translation are introduced mainly atthe lexical level,the syntactic level and the stylistic level.Part three,the most important part of this report,isthe translation methods and case analysis.Based on Newmark’s communicative theory,the translator presents a number of examples and summarizes the different translating strategies and methodsfrom thelexical,syntactic and stylistic perspectives.The last part is summary,in which the translator presents her translating experienceand points out the remaining problems. |
