| This translation project is based on materials from GMO Myth and Truths, the latest GMO report published by Earth Open Source. This report, up till now, is the most comprehensive one on GMO food research,from which the author selected a chapter for translation research.With the development of modern biotechnology, GMO has played an important role in human life, while exerting increasingly profound influence upon it. However, GMO has also caused endless disputes and controversies worldwide. Many questions and doubts about its impact have risen. Therefore, it’s imperative to translate the latest relating news and reports into Chinese to allow scholars and the public to know more details about GMO. In this report, the author focuses on the methods and strategies to translate GMO text from English into Chinese.In the first part, the translation program background, the significance and the aim of the report were illustrated from the perspective of science and translation. In the second part, the author probes into the features of the articles of biotechnology, and brings forth specific strategies in translation. The third part integrates the Functional Equivalence with the translation of science and technology articles. In addition, the author also analyzes some typical examples from the translation work to bring forth solutions. The fourth part is the conclusion,that is, functional equivalence is reasonably effective in translating biotechnology articles, while reproducing the closet equivalent effect on readers. The Functional Equivalence is applicable to the translation of GMO articles, serves as a guiding principle. |
