This report is based on an E-C consecutive interpreting practice by the author on climate change and human rights.Under the guidance of Gile’s Effort Model, this practice report aims to analyze the causes of information loss in E-C consecutive interpreting.Accordingly, the author proposes coping strategies to prevent information loss in E-C consecutive interpreting.Information loss problems in this report included incomplete lists, filled pauses and incoherent output.Incomplete lists were caused by the author’s insufficient short-term memory, filled pauses were caused by the author’s ineffective note-taking,and incoherent output was caused by the author’s poor coordination between listening comprehension and note-taking.In the interpreting task, due to her poor effort allocation, the author failed to deal with these problems in a timely and proper manner, eventually leading to information loss in the target speech.Based on the analysis of the above problems and their causes, the author proposed coping strategies, including omission, adding reminders on notes, simplifying notes and manifesting logical relations on notes. These strategies are expected to help relieve excessive cognitive burden in the interpreting task to avoid information loss and offer reference to interpreting practice in the future. |
