A Report On The Chinese Translation Of "The High-Frequency Adjectives" In Marine Occurrence Reports

With the continuous development of maritime transportation,and the occurrence of maritime accidents,the marine occurrence report which is used to analyze and study the cause,process,results and experience of the accident,is becoming more and more important.There are a lot of researches on the marine occurrence report,but only some of them study the adjective translation and few of them study the translation of the high-frequency adjectives.Therefore,this research is based on the marine accident reports of 50,000 words,and studies the translation of the high-frequency adjectives.The theories used are "the three translation principles raised by Tytler","the classification of adjectives" raised by Randolph Quirk,and several translation methods---meaning determination,lexical category conversion,amplification,omission and four characters translation.The first two translation methods are used more widely.The translation of the terminology and fixed statements requires repeated confirmation,in order to ensure the preciseness and accuracy of the accident report.The other three translation methods are also important to realize the adequacy,accuracy,clarity and fluency of the translation.The using of amplification and omission makes the meaning and content of the original words be delivered more clearly and fluently.The application of four character translation also represents the Chinese culture.The translation of adjectives in the maritime related materials is generally focused on,while only a few essays published are on it.Therefore,it is hoped that this essay can provide some references for the later research.
