The thesis is a Chinese-English translation practice. The source text is selected from the former five passages of Visits to Temples, which mainly narrates the experiences of author's visits to five temples in Xi'an,Shaanxi Province. The text includes an abundance of sentences in prose and Zen Buddhism words. The prose translation puts emphasis on conveying emotional and aesthetic feelings of source language. In the process of translation, the translator not only expresses the meanings but also the conversion of the feelings and keynotes of source language to reappear the spirit of the prose. The report is guided by Tytler's three principles.By translating the Chan Sect words and culture-loaded words to achieve the equivalence of words through literal translation, transliteration and annotation;by adopting free translation to split long sentences, adjust syntaxes, convert rhetorical devices and reconstruct sentences in sentences translation;by employing the domestication method to reserve the stylistic features of prose in the connections between paragraphs and discourses. This report consists of five parts. The first part and the second part make a brief introduction of translation task and the process of translation. The third part stresses on the discussions of translation strategies and techniques of words, syntaxes and discourses based on the examples of translation cases. The fourth mentions the post-translation reflections and inspirations, rethinking the whole process of translation. The last part summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of this report.
