This report is a translation review of the first two chapters of Touch under the guidance of Tytler's Three Principles.Because the style of this novel is mainly concentrated in a large number of rhetorical devices, and Alexander Fraser Tytler had an important discussion on the ideas and style preservation of the original work in Essay on the Principles of Translation, this report aims to summarize and explore the Chinese-English(C-E)translation methods of some certain rhetorical devices in the perspective of Tytler's Three Principles,so as to better retain the styles of the original work, such as humor and satire. In the translation of this novel, the author of this report(hereinafter as the author)firstly selected, identified and analyzed a large number of rhetorical devices in the original text, and translated them under the guidance of Tytler's Three Principles, and then summarized the translation methods. At last,by re-identifying the devices and comparing their changes in the same case, the author summarized the C-E translation methods of some certain rhetorical devices as the following.Firstly, the rhetorical devices with similar style features such as simile, metaphor, synecdoche, personification and hyperbole should be translated as equally as possible in C-E translation, with heterogeneous translation as supplement; While equal translation should be avoided in the rhetorical devices with different styles;compound rhetorical devices should be encouraged to preserve and strengthen the styles in the translation of rhetorical devices,so as to avoid the weakening and the loss of the original styles. However,no gold is pure,so is this report.Due to the limitations of text type, translation scale and the amount of rhetorical devices selected in this report, the translation methods of rhetorical devices explored in this report may be only suitable for the C-E translation of rhetorical devices in novels, and it is under discussion whether they are suitable for the translation of other rhetorical devices which were not included in this report and for the rhetorical devices in other types of text. But relevant future studies will be of great value, especially on the mechanism of rhetorical translation methods in influencing styles.
