With developments of the cultural globalization,cultural exchanges between countries are getting closer.Literature as one of the tools of nourishing human thoughts,needs translation bridge for better cultural communication and understanding.This report takes one of the Australian literary critic Harry Heseltine’s work The Most Glittering Prize as the task of translation practice.Firstly,the report gives a brief overview of the translation task,background,textual characteristics and the significance of the study,then it describes the translator’s working process in detail.Secondly,under the guidance of Tytler’s Three Principles of Translation,the translator uses translation methods such as addition translation,free translation,part of speech conversion and other translation methods,selects a number of typical cases from the lexical and syntactic levels to further explain the translation difficulties and solutions in the process of translation practice,such as the understanding of the text,choosing meanings of the words,and dealing with long and difficult sentences.Finally,the translator summarizes the achievements,limitations and suggestions for future translation studies,for contribution to the cause of literary translation.
