COMT Gene,Parenting Style And Creativity

Creativity is the fundamental drive of the development of human society as well as the necessary ability to achieve life success.It is influenced by genetic and environmental factors.With the advancement of molecular genetic association study,several genes have been found to be associated with creativity and G×E interactive effects also attracted many researchers.Besides,the combinations of polymorphisms have not been examined,possibly limiting the range of biological susceptibility to environmental influence.Due to gender difference in some genes,it could be more proper to analyze G × E separately by gender.As a result,the present study investigated the influence of interaction of COMT gene(single polymorphism and multi-polymorphism),parenting style,gender on creativity.The present study explored the influence of COMT gene(12 SNP)and parenting style on undergraduates' creativity in the divergent verbal tasks.Creativity and parenting style were measured by DT test and Parenting Authority Questionnaire among 427 unrelated healthy Chinese undergraduates respecitvely.Twelve single-nucleotide polymorphisms covering COMT were genotyped and genomic DNA for each participant was extracted from peripheral venous blood samples.The main conclusions were listed as follows:(1)COMT gene(multi-polymorphisms)interacts with parenting style to predict creativity.Individuals with more susceptibility alleles were inclined to demonstrate higher level of creativity when experienced positive parenting(authoritative parenting style),while demonstrate lower level of creativity when experienced negative parenting(permissive parenting style).(2)Two-way interactions of COMT gene(single polymorphism and multi-polymorphisms)parenting style on creativity have gender difference.For the creativity(fluency and originality)of girls,the interaction effect of CGSI2(rs5993882?rs4646312?rs6269?rs4818?rs769224)and maternal authoritative was significant.For the creativity(originality and flexibility)of boys,the effect of CGSI3(rs6269?rs4818)and paternal authoritative or maternal permissive was significant.(3)The interaction patterns of COMT gene and parenting style are different among different polymorphisms.The interaction of CGSI1(rs5993882?rs4646312 ?rs6269)or CGSI2(rs5993882?rs4646312?rs6269?rs4818 ? rs769224)and maternal authoritative on female originality conformed to differential susceptibility model;The interaction of CGSI3(rs6269 ? rs4818)and maternal permissive on male originality conformed to differential susceptibility model;The interaction of CGSI3(rs6269 ? rs4818)and paternal authoritative on male originality conformed to diathesis-stress model;The ineraction of CGSI3 and maternal permissive on male flexibility conformed to vantage sensitivity model.
