A Report On The Translation Of The American Vision:Modern Times(Chapter 18)

This is a report on the translation of The American Vision: Modern Times(Chapter 18 The Time of Upheaval).During the process of translation,combined with translation theories and practice,the author analyzes the relevant difficulties in details,and then finishes this report.In terms of Katharina Reiss' s text typology,with clear and precise words,this text belongs to the type of information.When translating this text,the author encounters with many difficulties.On account of the differences between Chinese and English in words,sentence structures and expressions,the author sometimes finds it difficult to choose the equivalent words and expressions both in Chinese and English.What's more,there are some translation mistakes caused by the author's misunderstandings of the text.As a result,this report concentrates on the studies of the features of the information text and language of this history book to analyze the suitable translation strategies adopted for the type of information,making it convenient for the target language readers in the principles of accuracy,purposiveness and readability.This report is composed of four chapters in all.In the first chapter,the author makes a brief introduction to this text,while in the second chapter,the author describes the whole process of this translation task,including the preparation before this task,the process and corrections after this task.In Chapter three,the author selects some special examples to analyze.In the last chapter,the author concludes the lesson learned from this translation tasks,promising that it can be a reference for other translators.
