This is a report on the simulated interpretation of the Report on the Work of the Government(2016).As the official document of the government of the People’s Republic of China,the work report is released by the premier of the state council to the National People’s Congress(NPC)and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC).The content of Government Work Report mainly includes the following three parts,namely a work review of last year,a work plan of the current year,and the self-construction of Chinese government.It owns the features of entirety,objectivity,simple style,and giving prominence to key points.With China’s development and increasing strength,more and more countries are willing to know about China.It is Interpreting that plays the role of language bridge for China to communicate with other countries.Through the simulated interpretation of the Government Work Report,the author aimed at conveying China’s information to the world and also finding practical tactics of interpreting to help interpreting trainees improve their skills.The guided theory of the project is the Interpretive Theory,which came into being in the late 1960 s and was proposed by Danica Seleskovitch,a distinguished expert in interpreting.Interpretive Theory suggests that interpreting is an act of communication,the aim of which is to convey meanings and interpreters have to paraphrase the source language with the help of cognitive complement in order to correctly convey the meanings.The Triangular Model of Interpreting separates the process of interpreting into three phrases,namely comprehension,deverbalization and reformulation;the theory is a great breakthrough for traditional interpreting theories.This report consists of five parts.The first part is the introduction which introduces the background information and the significance of the project;the second part discusses the preparations needed before interpreting,which includes the necessary tools and the research of the NPC and Premier Li Keqiang’s speaking style;the third part focuses on the establishment and key concepts of the Interpretive Theory;the fourth part analyzed the problems occurred in the project and found useful tactics and factors that could influence the quality of interpreting;the fifth part concluded the major findings and limitations of the project. |
