“Xiwang”(Harapan)is one of the best,and famous,schools that offer intensive Chinese language courses in Pontianak,Indonesia.It was established in 1966 by a teacher who deeply loves Chinese culture.In that year the school enrolled more than a hundred students.Nowadays 465 students attend Chinese courses in Xiwang,which makes this school one of the most important school in Pontianak.In opinion of Pontianak citizens,the Chinese courses offered by Xiwang have good results,the students of elementary and middle schools attending Xiwang have a great progress learning Chinese language.The author through the interview and questionnaire survey for the Chinese teachers,students,teaching materials used a comprehensive understanding and analysis.The content of the teacher questionnaire consist on four parts: the basic information of the teacher,the professional quality of the teachers,the attitudes and opinions of the teachers on the teaching,the teacher's views on the students,the teaching materials and the curriculum.The content of the student questionnaire consist on five parts: the student's personal information,background,students learn Chinese attitude,students learn Chinese motives,student's views on teachers,on teaching,and teaching materials.Through the questionnaire survey,the author analyzes the problems of Chinese teachers in the school,such as: the teacher's request for students is not high enough,some teachers teaching method is more monotonous,not rich enough,very few assignments,etc.;students have problems such as: many students rarely interact with the teacher,the use of Chinese language is low,the lack of pre-class preparation,lack of review after class,prefer to use mother tongue with classmates and teachers to communicate,do not want to do exercises;teaching problems,such as: copy of the teaching materials,so that students lose interest in textbooks,the content is not suitable for some students;other aspects of the problem,such as: the lack of media use,the class time is not suitable for students,some school facilities are bad or not ideal.The author also put forward some suggestions according to the shortcomings,such as teachers and student's parents to develop cooperation for the students to improve the interaction between teachers and students,give more simple questions toward passive students;For students in the existence of the problems of countermeasures,such as: to students can use the task of Chinese output,treat the students more strictly,so that students can generate and improve their interest in Chinese;for teaching materials problems,such as: the use of color textbooks,so that students have interested in textbooks;for other aspects of the existing problems,such as: to improve teaching facilities,so that students can choose their own class time.
