A Translation Report On EST

English for science and technology(EST)is a branch of English.With the development of science and technology and the gradual integration of global development,science and technology in academic exchanges is highlighting its importance,and more than 85% of aquatic science and technology literature are in English.For better academic exchanges,which may lead domestic professionals to keep up in-time with the leading edge information from overseas academic circles,translators ought to learn more about English for science and technology,and what's more,the quality of translation of English for science and technology is particularly important and needs improving.Translation of English for science and technology is however different from other branches in English translation.English for science and technology,in spite of the general features of English,has its own characteristics in linguistic and stylistic aspects and specific translation standards,and owing to the uniqueness of related professional knowledge,the translation of fishery English for science and technology requires much preparation before practice of translator.This paper chooses the experiment report on fishery related subject as the research object and it explains the definition and the academic scope of the researched subject,and then the paper illustrates the value of studying fishery English for science and technology and the research value of microbial experiment report.In addition,this paper summarized the features of English for science and technology from the aspect of words and syntax level and the standard to evaluate its translation text.Furthermore this paper explained the content of Nida's functional equivalence and the theory's features,thus selecting the theory as a director in translating English for science and technology.By taking the microbial experimental report original text of fishery science and technology as an example,and combined with the writer's practice on translation of fishery English for science and technology,this paper talks about translation method of words such as literal translation and liberal translation of words and the three skills of addition,omission,conversion of sentences translation and elaborates on these kinds of translation methods and skills by analyzing the examples of fishery English for science and technology texts.This research will help translators working on fishery English have more systematic,comprehensive and in-depth knowledge on fishery EST and it is hoped that the functional equivalence theory will be used to guide the translation of fishery English and improve the quality of Chinese translation of EST.
