| As an important part of agriculture,the horticulture industry plays a vital role in conserving resources and controlling environment pollution and improving environment quality.However,some gardening methods are unscientific and even are harmful to the environment.Foreign countries have advanced experience in horticulture industry.Therefore,the translation of scientific approaches to gardening is of great significance.The source text of this translation report is an excerpt from The Science of Gardening,published in 2018.As the book The Science of Gardening belongs to English for Science and Technology(EST),the informativity and translatability of the target text should be emphasized.Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory,the author chooses the book The Science of Gardening as the translation practice and discusses the translation methods of EST at the lexical and syntactic and textual levels.This report consists of four main Chapters.Chapter One is the description of the translation task,including background information,significance of the practice,rationale of the text selection and features of the text.Chapter Two demonstrates the translation process,including the preparation before translation,translation process-and quality control.Chapter Three,a major part of the report,analyzes the typical cases from the perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory at the lexical and syntactic and textual levels.Chapter Four is a summary which describes the experience and reflections of the author and unsolved problems in translation.Through this translation practice,the author gets a more in-depth understanding of scientific gardening methods and improves her translation competence,especially in EST.Besides,she also expects that this translation practice can provide good reference for gardeners and researchers. |
