Research On The Prohibition Of Keeping Maidservant In 1920s-1930s

The keeping maidservant custom in China has been a long time. In modern times,under the influence of western thoughts, people are required to prohibit keeping maidservant. This paper focuses on the issue of forbidding maidservant in the period of the Republic of China, with the report of the maidservants in Shenbao, supplemented by the archives of the government reform in bad customs at that time, and explored the forbid maidservant movement in the republic period of China.This article first focuses on the daily life of maidservants during the period of the Republic of China, introducing the overall reality of keeping maidservant in the Republic of China. Through the reports and comments from newspapers and periodicals analysis of the existence of maidservant problems such as abuse of maidservants, maidservants to stealing or missing or escape and how are these issues more and more concerned. By the call to tolerant treatment of maidservants to carry out a big debate on the abolish or retain this maidservant system, and then requiring the government officials and members of the Kuomintang not to keep the maidservant, and ultimately the development of the whole society for the forbidden maidservant movement affects the government's decisions and decrees.Then we will discuss the forbidden maidservant claims of the community and the forbidden maidservant organizations and movements In the society, as well as the local forbidden maidservant on the operation, how to promote the central government promulgated the ban on keeping maidservant and then formation of a forbidden maidservant upsurge in the community. This part first study on the situation of the forbidden maidservant organizations such as Against Keeping Maidservant Association and National Abolition of the Concubine and Maidservant Association. The forbidden maidservant organization and movement and the women' liberation movement to form an interactive relationship, began to put pressure on the government. Through all efforts the life of the maidservants of the Republic of China has been improved, and there have been many new phenomena in the maidservants. The forbidden maidservant movement has made some achievements. In the period of the Republic of China, the maidservant system still exists with the ban on the whole. Maidservant system did not get completely abolished during the Republic of China because of political chaos at that time, and the policy can not be effectively implemented, economic factors and social conditions and people's cultural and psychological factors constraints, and the whole forbidden maidservant movement underestimated the turbulent opposition forces in the specific operation. Although the forbidden maidservant movements are not very successful, there is a clear advance in the community's understanding of the issue of maidservants.
