As is known, the development of science and technology has been regarded as an essential criterion for measuring how powerful a country is.Also,it should be noted that many breakthroughs and innovations in science and technology would have been impossible but for the efforts of science teams instead of certain individuals, which has served as good evidence for the fact that science team management weighs heavily in boosting the development of science and technology. This thesis aims to explore the translation of texts about science team management from the perspective of Peter Newmark's text typology theory.According to him, texts can be classified into three types based on their functions, namely, expressive type, informative type and vocative type, and different methods should be employed for the translation of different types of texts. In addition,he has proposed two well-known translation methods---semantic translation and communicative translation in his book, and the former mainly applies to the translation of expressive texts, while the latter is often adopted to translate informative texts and vocative texts. The material chosen in the thesis and translated by the present author is the sixth chapter from the book Enhancing the Effectiveness of Team Science,co-authored by Nancy J.Cooke and Margaret L.Hilton.The text has been analyzed at the lexical and syntactical level, and because generally, the text falls into the informative type, communicative translation is mainly used to tackle translation difficulties encountered at these two levels, such as the translation of technical terms, the translation of attributive clauses, the translation of long sentences, etc. Moreover, sufficient examples is provided to lend more force to the points.Hopefully, the study will afford some enlightenment to the translation of similar texts.
