Problems Of And Suggestions To The Consecutive Interpreting—A Practice Report On Tourism Promotion And Cooperation Between Ningxia And Dubai

With the construction of Tourism Transit Port between China and Arab States and continuous efforts in building Region-based Tourism Demonstration Zone,tourism in Ningxia is undergoing tremendous development and the tourism cooperation and exchange between Ningxia and Arab States,especially Dubai,is further boosted under the opportunity generated by the platform of China-Arab States Expo held in Ningxia.This report is based on the writer's interpreting practice for a tourism promotion and cooperation meeting between Ningxia and Dubai.Under the guidance of Gile's Effort Model,it analyzes the problems of inadequate comprehension,overloaded memory,lack of coordination between short-term memory and note-taking,and failure in reorganizing the message that she encountered in her interpreting due to the reasons of time urgency for pre-interpreting and unbalanced effort allocation.Finally,the writer proposes the possible solutions of coping tactics for emergency and applying interpreting skills accordingly.The writer finds that three phases,namely pre-interpreting,while-interpreting and after-interpreting work,need to be given equal attention.For the first phase,interpreters need to know the background knowledge,be familiar with the accent and establish a good glossary.Gile's Effort Model can help interpreters to efficiently allocate effort in listening,note-taking,short-term memory and reproduction to relieve their pressure,while interpreting,the effort model should be made full use of so as to ensure a smooth interpreting work.After interpreting,to summarize and analyze the problems and weaknesses in the on-spot interpreting is particularly important,as it is crucial for seeking coping tactics for emergency and improving flexibility in applying interpreting skills.Lastly,the writer proposed that constant practice in basic interpreting skills and accumulation of specialized knowledge are keys to a successful interpreting.
