Consecutive interpreting involves listening,comprehending,note-taking,short-term memory, coordinating and producing, which makes it necessary for interpreters to allocate their effort effectively into these procedures to accomplish a high quality consecutive interpreting.Effort allocation imbalance, which occurs often in real interpreting practice, can increase the capacity requirement for each procedure in interpreting, leading failures in each stage. This practice report, based on Gile's Comprehension Equation and Effort Model, analyses the interpreting failures and their causes in the author's interpreting task, and proposes coping strategies. It is found that the causes of interpreting failures are new vocabularies, disordered note-taking,ineffective analysis and coordination.Coping strategies are proposed in terms of preparing language knowledge and extra-linguistic knowledge,note-taking principles, summarization and omission of interpreting production. |
