This practical material is excerpted from Environmental Economics: A Very Short Introduction written by an English Stephen Smith. It mainly introduces the relationship between economic activity and environmental protection and how we get most environmental benefits by least economical costs. The material is from chapter 5,focusing on one of hot topics today-climate change, based on the four chapters before, which analyzes the contradiction between climate change and economic development and comes up with corresponding solutions. This book belongs to scientific and technological text, but it is for average educated readers. It contains lots of language structures of long sentences, which become key points in this practical report. The translator does further segmentation of long sentences in case analysis-from long sentences with various non-finite verbal phrases and prepositional phrases to complex sentences on language structures, especially noun clauses and adverbial clauses. The translator does segmentation and integration of various long sentences above according to Chinese convention,to make them become natural Chinese. The translator deeply understands difference between Chinese and English by this practice.Hence, the translator reorganizes the source text according to Chinese convention,so that Chinese readers can accept translation text.
