Report On E-C Translation Of Climate Solutions Series (Excerpts)

The source text for this translation project is the first and the second part of Climate Solutions Series,with 7931 English words in total and co-finished by Stephen Naimoli and Sarah Ladislaw.The source text aims to provide insights to the U.S.government through explaining existing advantages and challenges from the perspective of science and technology,policy and public-private partnership if the U.S.aims to reduce greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions to net-zero by or soon after 2050.Translation of this strategic document,written by the U.S.think tank,allows Chinese policy-makers,environmental enthusiasts and scientific workers to understand advanced environmental protection ideas and dilemmas in the U.S.so as to contribute to Chinese environmental protection.During translation,there are two key points,including the translation of terminologies and that of sentences with various patterns.The first key point lies at how to ensure accurate and unambiguous translation of terminologies,which can be solved by consulting dictionaries and encyclopedias in specific fields,and building glossaries to unify term translation.The second key point lies at how to improve the readability of sentences on the premise of clear logic and accurate main ideas,which can be solved by several translation methods,including conversion to causal relationships,division and comprehensive translation.This report consists of four parts.Chapter one is an introduction to the background of translation project.Chapter two mainly explains efforts made during the whole translation process,including the evaluation of the source text before translation,tools used during translation,translation steps and proofreading arrangement.Chapter three lists key points and major difficulties during translation and their solutions.Chapter four summarizes lessons learned from this translation project.
