With the development of economy and culture, literature translation is increasingly growing and becomes more and more important. This is a translation practice report of autobiography. The source texts are the excerpts from the autobiography by Simon Hattenstone, who is a journalist and a feature writer for Guardian. This paper chooses Functional Equivalence Theory of Eugine A.Nida as the guiding theory and translation standard.Eugine A.Nida is a famous American linguist, translator, and translation theorist. As theoretical basis,Functional Equivalence Theory points out that the equivalence has two kinds of cases, one is Formal Equivalence, which “values the form and contents of message self”;Another is Dynamic Equivalence, which Nida praises highly and calls “the closest natural equivalence”.Functional Equivalence Theory guides translation with following standards: to transmit information,to transmit the spirit and style of originals,to have smooth language and to conform to the grammatical rules and expressions, and readers have similar response. The translation practice report contains the following parts: Firstly, this translation practice report illustrates the definition of autobiography. Then, based on the Functional Equivalence Theory, combined with the translation examples and analysis on Ronnie: the Autobiography of Ronnie O'Sullivan, this report illustrates from the angle of the translation on informal words and Functional Equivalence Theory. In order to solve the problems in the translation process, this translation report also analyses the use of corresponding translation strategies in the translation of cultural-loaded words and rhetorical devices. This translation report collects relevant and potential examples and classifies them into different categories, and then analyze how to apply the functional equivalence theory to translate culture-loaded words and expressions, such as,slang, idioms, proper names and allusions.Apart from that, this translation report also covers how to adopt the functional equivalence theory to figure outsome effective translation strategies when dealing with rhetoric devices, including simile, metaphor, hyperbole and euphemism. And then Last but not least, this report gives a brief conclusion about the translation understanding and translation experience after the translation practice. It is hoped that the readers who read the report can gain their translation experience and improve their skills as well as the intercultural communication awareness to further realize the improvement of translation capabilities. This paper aims to provide relevant reference for literature translation.
