The Translation Of Characters' Names In Foreign Children's Literature From The Perspective Of Children-centered Orientation

Characters' names, as translation examples, are drawn from Horrid Henry and the Mega-Mean Time Machine against the backdrop of children-centered orientation proposed by the scholar named Zhou Zuoren in this paper that the children's interest is treated as the foundation within the boundary of the beauty. The strategies and applications of Chinese translation of characters' name in children's literature are analyzed in detail with a multi-dimensional manner. The subsequent methods which include free translation, transliteration, commendatory or derogatory methods,cultural connotations and personality-related translation are attempted to address the related problems of Chinese translation of English names in literature. The most innovative approach of this study is that the scientific flow diagram is used to clarify translation strategies, so as to better complete the favorable transmission of inter-lingual meaning from the surface to deep layers. Cultural loss is highly reduced in children's literature in order to better set the stage for the communication between the East and the West and to satisfy the needs of children's thirst for reading.Children's literature, as an integral part of literature, is characterized by both the general features of literature and its own particularity. It requires an understandable and lively type of translated texts ranging from the form to the content, which demonstrates demanding standards for translators. Translators have the obligation to conscientiously appreciate and reproduce the childlike sensation and frank naivety,so as to sufficiently fulfill children-centered standard of translation in foreign children's literature. The stumbling blocks are removed thoroughly so that international cooperation and communication in regard to children's literature can be extensively undertaken in the near future. As a result, the China's modernization can be better integrated in the 21st century, wielding influence in the world stage as a strong soft power.The translation report is divided into four parts. The first part mainly introduces the translation background with respect to children's literature and the characteristics of the source English text. The second part mainly describes the process of translation of Horrid Henry and the Mega-Mean Time Machine, including various concerns and task completion among pre-translation, while-translation, as well as post-translation. The third part is the case analysis, covering the characteristics of children-centered orientation,key points and difficulties in translation,strategies,comparative analysis and etc. The fourth part summarizes the conclusion and understanding of this report, looking forward to the practical significance of this translation report.
