As a one of the most important archeology studying,epigraph studying occupied a special position since Qin and Han dynasty.Not until Tang dynasty,it was becoming universal from the nobility to civilian.They all had a epigraph after their death recorded their native,lifetime,marriage,even belief or philosophic thought.Epigraph studying had a high value because of its wild scope,authenticity and aboriginality,which was like a vehicle expressing rich historical records.Besides,it was also known as its literary style,beautiful calligraphy and its decoration.Luzhou(today's Changzhi city)had a very important status as its geographic position and prosperity economy in Tang dynasty.It buried thousands and hundreds people covering all sectors of social classes.The epigraphs had been discovered piecemeal through Qing dynasty and been greatly found after 1949.By investigated of 186 pieces epigraphs that sill kept in changzhi city,this paper introduced their decorations,time span,and regional features.It was found that the contains of those epigraphs are priceless historical records of Tang dynasty,which including local military affairs,geographical distribution,deeds of people from aristocratic families and ethnic minority areas.This paper firstly outlined the current study status of this question,then depicted the purpose and method of study.After that,this paper was trying to make a classification of the scope on regions and times about those 186 pieces epigraphs of Tang dynasty.Based on above works,it analyzed the distribution features of tombs during Tang dynasty in Luzhou by several epigraphs.Next,it divided those epigraphs into four stages by its shape and decoration,and described them by its stages so that could draw out their characters.Finally,compared with history records of ancients history books,it analyzed the records of military,geography,families,ethnics memorized on epigraphs so that to find out different and to made amendments and addenda.This paper pointed out that although Luzhou is nearby the capital city in Tang period,it had its own regional characters according to its decoration classification.Also this paper supposed that the arrangement of Luzhou tombs in Tang dynasty had a regular pattern.Rich history resources were found even only by reorganized those materials of military,geographic and family history recoded in epigraphs.Because of that,it is important to study epigraphs so that new materials could be collected.
