| It is important to recognize words in the life.People recognize words by identifying morpheme and understanding semantics.Since Taft and Foster quoted "morpheme" into psychological language community,researchers have carried on many researches about morpheme,mostly from the morpheme structure,the meaning of morpheme or the whole word meaning to the identification of a compound word.They begin to explore the compound word decomposition and identification.Existing research on Chinese language processing compared the morpheme-related words to morpheme-unrelated word pairs.First,people use less time in morpheme-related words than morpheme-unrelated words.But the related words are also relevant in the semantic.So it is not clear that the priming effect is caused by morpheme or semantic.That is,the morpheme are not separated from semantics in the test material.Second,most of the task in the researches is lexical decision task,in which a semantic processingtask is used.So the task appeared in the semantic priming is caused naturally or by the semantic task is unclear.It is necessary to set a non-semantic processing task to search which initiating morpheme and semantic.This study separates morpheme from semantic within a word and explores the role of morpheme and semantics on the fast identification of the Chinese compound words.The researches of the morpheme and semantic can help people solve the problem of recognizing words,therefore helping language learners who have difficulties in learning language.Experiment 1,study the role of morpheme and semantics in masked priming paradigm(lexical decision task)in the processing of Chinese vocabulary.The results show that semantic and morpheme do not produce priming effect in the Chinese compound words recognition.Experiment 2 also use the masked priming paradigm but non-semantic task(same-graph decision task)to examine the effect of semantic priming and morpheme priming on the processing of Chinese words.It seems found that the morpheme played an important role in the words identification,but the morpheme and graph are overlap,so the graph plays an important role in the words identification.Experiment 3,study the role of morpheme and semantics in unmasked priming paradigm(lexical decision task)in the processing of Chinese words.The results show that semantic and morpheme are all produce priming effect in the Chinese compound words recognition.According to the above three experiments,it concluded that:1.Morpheme does not produce priming effect when the Chinese vocabulary presented in shorter time,but it produces priming effectwhen the Chinese vocabulary presented in longer time.2.Morpheme are activated later than semantics in identifying words.It supports the combined access model. |
