The report is based on the translation of chapters1-3 of Dying to be Free?a Healing Guide for Families after a Suicide. In these three chapters, the author firstly gives a detailed description of her pain after her hearing the death of her cousin, and then she introduces the main theme of this book :how to recover from the pain of losing your friends or relatives who die of suicide.Besides, the author also lists many cases to deepen the theme. The report is divided into four parts. The first part is the task description, including research background, brief introduction of the book Dying to be Free?a Healing Guide for Families after a Suicide, the author of the book and the reason for translating. The second part is process description, including the preparation, process and proofreading of the translation. The third part is text analysis, including the nature and feature of the source text.Besides, the author separately lists the main translation strategies and methods for the translation. The four part is case study, which focus on the problems the translator encountered during the translation process and the certain theory she adopts to solve these problems. In order to accomplish the translation project, the translator has made enormous efforts.First, the author looks up many parallel texts so as to accumulate relevant background knowledge about suicide. To achieve her expected outcome, the translator analyzes the text typology.According to Newmark text typology, the translator found that the original text belongs to informative text. And Newmark suggests that semantic translation is used for expressive text and communicative theory is used for informative text. Thus the author regards communicative translation as benchmark for the whole translation project.
