On Quality Control Of A Localization Project

With the development of globalization and popularization of information technology,translation and localization have developed swiftly correspondingly.Localization is a series of activities,including interface and document translation,localization,software compiling,localization project management,manual desktop printing typesetting,testing and quality assurance,etc.The quality of translation,an important part of localization,exerts a critical impact on products marketing,image of language service providers and the development of translation and localization industry.However,the quality of translation is not so satisfactory.One of the various reasons is the lacking of effective quality control method.In order to learn quality control process from excellent localization enterprises,taking advantage of this summer vacation,the author worked as a trainee translator and translated technical documents of JLR project during this summer vacation in Company X,one of the top 5 language service providers around the world.Through the internship,not only have the author had an understanding of the localization project process of Company X,but also gotten familiar with the quality control model on translation during the localization through participating in translation,spot-check,ICR and so on.Based on the internship,the author elaborates quality control before,during and after translation,problems in technology application,translation and communication and corresponding solution so as to conclude special requirements of translation in localization,the importance of quality as well as the extra-textual factors affecting quality like clients review and tag processing.Besides,by means of presenting translation process of a typical language service provider and manifesting its quality control model,the author also summarizes and reflects the quality control methodthat Company X adopts to deal with the project in this report in hopes of providing help and illumination for localization enterprises on quality control.
