Quality Control Of Localization Project

The report originates from the author’s internship of a website translation project as one of the translation team members of the world’s leading language service provider CSOFT from July 15 th to the end of August.During the translation, the author experienced the whole process of project management of CSOFT in which the most important part was quality control. As a project is most often accomplished by more than one translator, quality issues such as inconsistency must be addressed. In this project, the author was instructed to control the quality throughout the process-- before translation, during translation and after translation. Before translation, the author analyzed the source texts and prepared herself with some possible translation methods. During translation, the author set up a personal TM with Trados so as to leverage the translation memory. In addition, all three translators shared their own TMs so that maximum consistency could be kept and the efficiency could be raised. Real-time online discussion among three translators was also carried out during translation. After translation, under instructions by the PM, translators used Ap SIC Xbench for automatic QA checks and PLLP files for further improvement. As to the linguistic aspect of quality control, the project manager from CSOFT reviewed all translation and sent them back with comments for further improvement.By introducing the translation process of CSOFT and summarizing relative translation techniques learnt in the process, the author offers more information to students on the professional management process of a translation project in a leading localization enterprise and relevant computer aided translation tools. In this way, fellow students may come to know more translation skills and make better preparations for their career.
