A Practice Report On The Whispered Interpreting For Daimler's New Comers Orientation

Whispered interpreting,a branch of simultaneous interpreting,has been widely applied on many occasions like conference and negotiation because it is less restricted by the interpreting equipment.However,researches or reports that particularly focus on this aspect are quite limited,which makes more and further studies undoubtedly necessary.This is a whispered interpreting practice report in which the writer records the whole process of an interpreting activity in detail,including the preparation,on-site performing and the after-task evaluation.On top of this,the writer also discusses how the Skopos Theory may guide interpreting practice——and more specifically,the service nature and customization of interpreting activity together with their positive and negative impacts.In order to figure out these ideas,the writer then takes this whispered interpreting activity as an example and analyzes it through case study,self-correction and feedback comparison.Based upon the discussions and analyses,the writer then finds out the limited effectiveness of the above theories in guiding whispered interpreting.The result suggests that a professional interpreter should have a clear and independent understanding on the interpretation itself so as to reach a balance between client's preference and interpreter's judgment.This practice report,therefore,aims to provide more materials for case study and solutions in whispered interpreting,hoping it can be a practical reference for the learners and practitioners.
