One of the noticeable characters of Modern Chinese is known as “more vowels than characters”,which turns Chinese into a language that seems more difficult than any others.Since the foreign students may have some difficulties studying the homophones in Chinese,absolutely,this problem can not be ignored.By sending questionnaires to respondents,we are going to discuss the attitudes and methods of the teachers,the effect of the teaching and,the problems raised in class.Then the theories related to this issues and the conclusions drawn from the survey,will guide us to give some practical suggestions about homophone teaching.In the first chapter,the background,the significance,the study methods of this paper and the related study of homophone in TCSL will be demonstrated in details.Secondly,the main theories related to homophone teaching are to introduced,including the Context Theory,the Competition Mode and the Acculturation Theory.Thirdly,by making a survey about homophone teaching,in this chapter,we are going to have a better understanding of the Chinese teachers attitudes towards homophone,their teaching methods and teaching results,etc.And we will get some conclusions from the survey.Since the Context Theories somehow has been applied in homophone teaching,in the last chapter,the thesis is aimed at integrate this teaching subject with the mentioned theory,Competition Mode and Acculturation Theory.Based on the researches done by the formers,the inspiration drawn from the survey,we are to provide some useful suggestions for the homophone teaching.
