With legal exchanges increasing between China and foreign countries, much importance has been attached to legal translation. However, observations show that of the translated legal texts, laws and regulations, contracts and prospectus make up the absolute majority, and judgment translation,if any, remains relatively rare. Therefore, somewhat in the hope of helping to fill this gap,the author selected a judgment on lethal injection delivered by the Supreme Court of the United States as the translation material. The translation practice is divided into two parts. The first part is translation and the second part is reporting. In this report, the author analyzes and summarizes lexical and syntactic features of judgment, focuses on problems she came across during the translation and finds out the corresponding solutions.During this translation report, the three principles proposed by Li Kexing, namely accuracy and precision, consistency and identity, and clarity and concision, are applied as the guidance of analyzing the translation.Through this translation practice, the author aims not only to improve her own translation capability and deeper understanding of judgments but to provide domestic English-Chinese legal translation with an example for referential use and offer the most direct-viewing translated material to those who have interests in get a glimpse at the U.S.judicial judgments.
