Analysis On Exhibition Interpreter's Role

As China opens even wider to the outside world and world economic globalization deepens,an increasing number of international exhibitions have been held across the country.As we know,exhibitions cover wide-ranging fields from industry to agriculture,commerce,finance and tourism.They not only bring about such direct revenue as fees of space rental and pavilion construction,but also benefit development of other sectors like shopping,accommodation,transport,tourism and real estate.As the exhibition industry thrives,the market demand for professional exhibition interpreters increases accordingly.However,exhibition interpreters in the market are of mixed quality,which motivates the author to contribute her share to enrich research on exhibition interpreting with her observations on the interpreting practice of the 2015 Israel Government Tourist Office China Road Show from the perspective of the role of exhibition interpreter in an effort to facilitate the progress of exhibition industry.The author first summarizes the features of exhibition interpreting as follows:promotion-oriented,high repetition rate,cultural gap among communicators,specialized thematic knowledge,frequent interaction and intermittence.Based on the features of exhibition interpreting,the author concludes the role of exhibition interpreter with case analysis: an interpreting service provider,a salesperson,a consultant and an assistant.In the end,the author proposes some suggestions accordingly for exhibition interpreters.
