The 21 st century is the most telling witness of world communication and its expansion,as well as the vibrant development of international exhibition industry.Exhibitions such as Shanghai Expo and Canton Fair catch the most attention.A successful international exhibition demands strong language support, which can deepen mutual communication and understand ing.On the one hand, the competence of interpretation varies greatly among interpreters at present, and on the other hand relevant academic works and scholarly books on exhibition interpretation are also in great demand. Therefore,it is a great challenge for the interpreter to decide the interpretation purpose, and adopt the appropriate interpreting strategies in order to present good translations in line with the usage in Chinese. This study adopts instance analysis method, and is guided by the theory of skopos theory, seeks to identify variation methods from the view of the interpreters' purposes. It concludes that the interpreter should understand the interpretation purpose clearly, and choose different interpreting strategies in the context of speakers' intention.“Supplement” is adopted for interpreters to ease tensions or supplement necessary information.“Omission” is a must choice for interpreters to smooth cross-cultural conflicts.“Remoulding” is adopted for interpreters to increase communication efficiency. Thus the interpreter should choose proper interpreting strategies in order to deliver a sound target language and help communicators achieve their purposes. This report, based on the authors' personal experience of interpreting the 2015 China International Jewelry Fair, makes a tentative research on the variation in exhibition interpretation from the perspective of skopos theory, hoping that it could benefit novice interpreters, especially MTI students.
