Research On English Translation Of Chinese Popular Net Lingo From The Perspective Of Memes Of Translation

Following the rapid development of the Internet,more and more Chinese net lingoes have emerged in recent years.In order to meet the need of cultural exchange,many scholars begin to focus on translation of Chinese popular net lingo.However,the mistranslation of the Chinese popular net lingo has overflowed today,so it is necessary to find the systematic translation norms and strategies to avoid mistranslation while translating the Chinese popular net lingo.“Memes of translation” is put forward by Chesterman firstly,and the theory includes translation norms and translation strategies on three levels.By means of collecting and reading a large number of literatures about memes of translation and translation of Chinese popular net lingo,the author finds that “memes of translation” can be applied to the English translation of Chinese popular net lingo.The types and characteristics of net lingoes are analyzed in this thesis.Moreover,the qualitative analysis of the different English translations of Chinese popular net lingo is done in detail according to the translation norms and strategies.The translation of Chinese popular net lingo should be correct and accepted by the readers of the target language,so the process of translation is not only the translation of words and sentences,but also the translation of cultures,which meets Chesterman's translation norms.The translation strategies of Chinese popular net lingoes can be divided into three levels: syntactic strategies,semantic strategies and pragmatic strategies.Syntactic strategies can be used when the Chinese popular net lingo just conveys the superficial meanings;semantic strategies and pragmatic strategies are used when the Chinese popular net lingo has deeper meanings.Although there are weaknesses in this thesis,it plays an instructive role for the translators in the process of Chinese popular net lingo translation,which paves the way for further study.
