Music class interpreting requires the interpreter to secure bidirectional communication between the teacher and students. The intervention of musical instruments and music scores diversifies the source information input in music classes, increases the interpreter's effort load and deteriorates the interpreting performance. So far, most studies on music class interpreting focus either on elaborating on the interpreter's multiple roles that he/she plays or the effect of musical expertise on interpreting performance.Hardly any study can be found that probes into the interpreting effort load increased by multi-mode information input. In this practice report, the author employs Gile's Effort Model to analyze the interpreting failures caused by increased interpreting effort load due to diverse information input in her early music class interpreting practice. She also proposes coping strategies under the guidance of the Effort Model that are compensation strategies, preventive strategy and effort saving strategies to alleviate the interpreter's effort load. The author practiced all these proposed strategies in her later music class interpreting and verified their effectiveness by analyzing clients' feedback at the end of the interpreting task. |
