The report was based on the translation of Writing Arguments--A Rhetoric With Readings.As the source text,Writing Arguments--A Rhetoric With Readings talks about how to write arguments and how to read arguments rhetorically.During translating this source text,the author met some problems.And those problems such as the translation of words as well as the adjustment of sentences needed to be solved effectively in order to adapt to target readers' requirements and expectations.Therefore,the author chose Skopos Theory as the theoretical basis to guide the this task.Skopos Theory was put forward by Hans Vermeer.This theory consists of three rules,which are skopos rule,fidelity rule and coherence rule.Among these three rules,skopos rule is primary while fidelity rule and coherence rule should be subordinate to the skopos rule.Guided by Skopos Theory,the author set translation purposes and chose proper translation skills to achieve to lexical adaptation,syntactical adaptation and textual adaptation.The report consists of four chapters.In the first chapter,the author describes this task including its initiator and purpose.Besides the author also analyzes this report's significance and objective.In the second chapter,the author talks about the process of translation including the description of pre-translation preparations,process of translation as well as post-translation managements.In the third chapter,the author recounts case studies at different levels under the guidance of Skopos theory.In the last chapter,the author draws a conclusion including major findings and limitations.
